The Oiran were the highest class geisha who served the emperors. There is an annual festival in Shinagawa celebrating the age-old tradition. The stars of the festival are the women who dress up as the Oiran of course. They parade through the streets of Shinagawa, dressed in beautiful kimonos and accompanied by escorts and apprentices.
